Early Christian art and architecture was greatly inspired by Roman motifs of art and enhanced the pagan symbols using them. Some of the inclusions from Roman art were frescos and mosaics, and apart from these, the concept of presentation of body proportions, expressions, and utilization of space were all adapted from the Romans. The Catacombs of Rome hold some of the earliest known Christian art, mostly frescoes, that capture Jesus in various acts of piousness.
